For many Georgians, Clarke County Georgia is almost synonymous with its city of Athens, home to the University of Georgia. UGA’s main campus in Athens comprises 389 buildings on its 759 acres, and altogether its staff and employees number nearly 10,000. When you combine that with a student body numbering over 33,000 on its Athens campus , you can begin to assess the impact that the school has on the town. The energy of the students is felt everywhere around town and the student body provides a lot of diversity for the town.
Family and Children Services, Adoption and Fostering, Child Support, and Fraud are handled through the Department of Human Services (DHS).
If you want information about Athens-Clarke County ordinances, some traffic violations including DUI, shoplifting, or some alcohol violations, Municipal Court is Athens-Clarke’s busiest court with over 35,000 cases each year. Here is information about the Athens-Clarke jail. And here are links to the addresses of the County Municipal Court, Probate Court, and Juvenile Court.

As a family lawyer in northeast Georgia, I handle a wide range of issues on your behalf. Sometimes a prospective client’s needs overlap with community services provided by law, and in those cases there is an emergency help phone number of 2-1-1. Like its counterpart number 9-1-1, the emergency 2-1-1 number is answered 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Here is your LINK TO 211 EMERGENCY HELP IN NORTHEAST GEORGIA.
The site in the link above provides you access to 2-1-1 help referral service for the following counties in Georgia: Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, and Stephens.
2-1-1 was established in 2000 by the Federal Communications Commission as a way that citizens can receive assistance for some of the most basic problems. Service referral areas include: Food and Clothing Banks, Shelters, Community Meal Assistance, Transportation, Child Care, Tutoring, Home Health Care, Rent and Utilities Assistance, Emergency Suicide Help, and Mental Health concerns.
2-1-1 is also a good resource for the elderly, for non-English speaking people, for those with reading challenges, as well as for newcomers to the area. They can also connect you to drug and alcohol intervention.
Even after you and I complete our legal services together, 2-1-1 is a good source for further assistance in job training and education programs.
My main law office is in Winder in Barrow County… but I also work in the jurisdictions of Athens/Clarke, Jackson, Oconee, Gwinnett, Madison, and Hall counties in Georgia.
I will always make myself available to discuss your problems with you. I can guide you to make sure your rights are protected, and I can connect you to other services in our area that may not require the advice or actions of a Georgia attorney … social services that are provided to you by law.
If for any reason you have trouble dialing 2-1-1, their direct number for our area is 706-353-1313continue reading
